Though some theatres remain open, several families are choosing to bring the movies home to take extra precautions during the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic. With a good set up and the right snacks, your family can have the ultimate at-home movie theatre experience.
Here are some tips to create the best movie experience without having to leave your house:
Snacks
You can’t have a proper movie night without snacks, so let’s start there! You’re going to need a mix of both salty and sweet. Popcorn is the obvious slaty choice. Skip the microwavable popcorn bags though and go for something a little more authentic. Pop some fresh on the stove, or order a small popcorn maker for the occasion. Go a step beyond and get some of your favorite popcorn toppings to add on, and pour it up in the biggest bowl you can find to enjoy.
You’ll want to balance it out with something sweet. You can never go wrong with MnMs! Some even might enjoy pouring the chocolates into the popcorn for a sweet and savory snack. Other popular sweet movie snacks you can buy at the store are chocolate bars, gummies, or hard candy. Want to take it up a notch? Try some of these snack recipes.
Transform the Space
To make the night more fun and cozy, transform the space into the ultimate movie makeover! To make the area most comfortable, find ways to pull in more seating. Take the mattress off your bed and move it into the center of the room, or blow up some air mattresses. If you don’t want to go through too much trouble, just grab all the pillows you can find to cover the floor and cuddle up.
You can also make a blanket fort. Gather all the blankets in your house and drape them over the back of kitchen chairs or whatever else you can find to make it seem like a tent. This won’t work as well for a larger family, but for a smaller group, it could be a lot of fun.
Hang up some string lights to create a cozy atmosphere, leave a few lamps on, or light a few candles. If you’re not of fan of light, make it as dark as possible by hanging blankets in front of the windows.
Take it Outside
Soon the temperatures will be rising again, and the chance to take your movie night outside will soon be possible. Outside movie nights require a bit more work than indoor ones unless you have a tv already set up outside. If not, there are plenty of ways to make it work.
There are several gadgets you can get to project your movie onto the side of your house, onto a hanging sheet, or onto a screen if you’ve got one.
You’ll also want to make sure that you have adequate sound equipment. Get a Bluetooth speaker, or buy a small speaker system so that your entire family can hear. Make sure they play loud and clear enough so that you can hear over outdoor nature noises.
